Academics
Whole Child Education
Education is far more than academic standards. A whole child approach gives students the opportunity to develop as well rounded individuals; developing their mind, bodies, and souls. Whole Child education encompasses social emotional learning, physical education, identity development, and academic growth.
At Istoria Academy, our trained and experienced teachers thoughtfully adapt and curate curriculum to meet students’ needs while staying aligned with our values.
Some of the curriculums we use serve as a resource rather than a strict roadmap. Grounded in research-based practices and guided by a Gospel-centered perspective, our teaching is intentional, flexible, and focused on developing the whole child — mind, body, and soul.
RLA
Reading language arts lessons will follow a knowledge based approach. Using Fishtank as a resource, students will develop comprehension skills while also building background knowledge. Students will have the opportunity to meaningfully engage in various interdisciplinary texts that will build their knowledge on a wide variety of topics.
Reading instruction is grounded in the science of reading, with Saxon Phonics providing systematic, explicit phonics instruction. Together, these approaches help students grow into confident readers, writers, and critical thinkers.
Math
Our math instruction uses Saxon Math as a resource, while incorporating a more hands-on, conceptually rich approach to learning. Saxon’s spiral structure allows students to consistently revisit and strengthen skills over time, building both confidence and mastery.
Students develop strong concrete math understanding through the use of manipulatives, visual models, and real-world applications. As their understanding deepens, these hands-on experiences naturally grow into efficient mental math strategies. Our goal is for students not only to solve problems, but to truly understand the mathematical concepts behind them and apply them in meaningful ways.
Science
Texas science standards and Mystery Science will drive project based learning units. Students will view the world like scientists by collaborating and problem solving.
Social Studies
Texas social studies standards will guide instruction to give students the opportunity to engage in the community around them and build historical knowledge.
Gospel Values
While we will not be explicitly using a Christian curriculum, we believe in Christ being a model for our daily living. We believe in seeing the world through the lens of the Gospel and letting it guide how we engage in the world around us.
